Chris Hannaford

Chris Hannaford is the Manager of Economic Development and Land Use Strategy at the City of Playford in Adelaide’s northern region. Having been with Playford Council for just under 2 years Chris’s role is in seeking to integrate the growth of new areas with land use and economic development. In particular he is seeking to ensure that Northern Adelaide broadens its economic base including opportunities to encourage businesses to think and work more sustainably.

Chris is Chair of the Economic Development Chapter of the SA Planning Institute and is on the Board of Economic Development Australia. He has a Graduate Diploma in Town Planning with highlights from previous positions including:

  • Manager, Strategy Unit – Planning SA.
  • West End Coordinator and Manager, Office of Economic Development – Adelaide City Council.  Chris held this role for 9 years and in 2000 he received on behalf of the council, the National Royal Australian Planning Institute Award for planning excellence for the “West End Urban Development Strategy”.
  • Better Cities Coordinator, Newcastle NSW 1993-1996.

At Adelaide Sustainability Drinks in June, Chris will be speaking on the development of a Northern Sustainable Business Precinct in Elizabeth West – an initiative on the path to building an informed, collaborative and innovative hub of sustainable practice and an exciting opportunity for the region’s current and future business community and indeed for Adelaide more broadly.
